๐As of September 21, 2024, the Middle East has recorded an impressive 26% growth in international tourist arrivals during the first seven months of 2024, compared to the same timeframe in 2019. This surge, which includes Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Oman, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Iran, establishes the region as the fastest-growing tourism market globally, reflecting a strong recovery and renewed confidence among travelers.
๐According to data from the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), global tourism is experiencing a robust resurgence, with international travel reaching 96% of pre-pandemic levels. From January to July 2024, approximately 790 million tourists traveled internationally, marking an 11% increase from the previous year and only 4% below the figures recorded in 2019.
๐The tourism boom in Saudi Arabia can be largely attributed to its Vision 2030 initiative, which aims to diversify the economy beyond oil by introducing tourist visas and developing new attractions. This strategic approach has established the Kingdom as a prominent destination for international travelers.
๐In the UAE, tourism remains strong, particularly in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, where continuous investments in hospitality and entertainment, bolstered by the lasting success of Expo 2020 Dubai, continue to draw visitors from around the globe.
๐Qatar has sustained its growth following the FIFA World Cup 2022, investing in infrastructure and promoting cultural and sports tourism to position itself as a year-round destination. Meanwhile, Oman is attracting eco-conscious travelers by emphasizing sustainable tourism and cultural heritage experiences, alongside the development of new luxury resorts and adventure offerings.
๐Kuwait is enhancing its tourism appeal through cultural initiatives, including new museums and family-friendly attractions that cater to Gulf tourists. Bahrain has also benefited from relaxed visa regulations and high-profile events such as the Formula 1 Bahrain Grand Prix, in addition to its rich cultural heritage.
